WATER AS ART, RESEARCH AND CONNECTION
NOVA*WATER is an artistic and interdisciplinary platform dedicated to exploring contemporary relationships with water.
Founded by artist and researcher Fernanda Trevellin, NOVAWATER* brings together art, research, education and material investigation to develop new ways of experiencing, understanding and valuing water.
At the centre of the platform is NOVA*DrinkingWaterFountain&Crystals, an evolving series of sculptural drinking-water fountains connecting water, minerals, light and perception.
Each composition establishes a distinct relationship between these elements, creating different sensory, material and spatial configurations that can be presented in exhibitions, cultural institutions, private environments and public contexts.
Water is approached as both material and experience: something encountered through the body, through perception, and through everyday acts of drinking, gathering and sharing.

NOVA*DrinkingWaterFountain&Crystals
Sculptural drinking-water fountains — sensory, immersive, contemporary.
Each work is both an artwork and a functional drinking-water fountain. Through water, mineral interfaces and light, the installations create sensorial environments that invite presence, perception and connection.
The series develops through three principal formats:
NOVA*Jungbrunnen
A large-scale, site-specific drinking-water fountain transforming water, architecture and collective participation into a shared spatial experience.
SUPER*NOVA
A sculptural drinking-water fountain series exploring the interplay of water, minerals and moving light through individual mineral compositions.
NOVA*Klein
An exclusive customized sculptural drinking-water fountain bringing water, minerals and light into an intimate, everyday encounter with the body.

ORIGINS
Childhood, Memory, Discovery
The name NOVAWATER* emerged from the encounter between matter, memory and lived experience.
The name NOVA refers to the astronomical phenomenon of stellar transformation -- SUPERNOVA -- where gold was created and scattered across space. Along with one of the oldest and most valuable element on Earth, NOVA suggests the idea of the new — emergence, transformation and the continuous formation of matter.
This relationship between origin and renewal is fundamental to the project.
My first relationship with water was not conceptual. It was physical, sensory and joyful.
As a child, I spent time at my family's property in Serra Negra, in the interior of São Paulo, within the region known as the Circuito das Águas Paulista, historically associated with mineral springs and mineral-water sources.
Among my earliest memories are the experiences of entering the swimming pool there, surrounded by clear, fresh water that came naturally from the ground.
At the time, this was simply part of life.
Only later, after living in and travelling through places where water required treatment, purification or technological intervention before reaching an acceptable quality, did I begin to understand the particularity of what I had experienced as a child.
The memory of that water returned with a new meaning.

MEMORY AS A BRIGDE
Memory connects what has been experienced with what is perceived in the present.
Memory connects past experience with present perception. It allows previous experiences, sensations and places to return, often triggered by an image, a sound, a material, a gesture or a change in environment.
In NOVAWATER*, memory is understood first as a lived experience: a way through which the body recognizes, recalls and reinterprets what it has encountered.
The memory of water from my childhood in Serra Negra returned years later through contrast. Having experienced places where water needed to be treated, filtered or otherwise transformed before becoming suitable for everyday use made me perceive differently the clarity, freshness and natural abundance of the water I had known as a child.
What had once been an ordinary experience became a field of attention.
This movement — from memory to perception, from perception to questioning, and from questioning to research — became one of the starting points of NOVAWATER*.
Water therefore enters the project not only as a substance, but as a carrier of experience: something that can be encountered through the senses, remembered through the body and reconsidered through artistic and scientific inquiry.

From lived experience to artistic inquiry
The memory of water became a starting point for a broader investigation into its physical properties, biological functions, mineral relationships, environmental conditions, cultural meanings and unresolved questions.
What began as a personal experience gradually developed into an interdisciplinary artistic research practice connecting water, minerals, light, perception, matter and environment.
NOVAWATER* approaches these elements not as isolated subjects, but through the relationships between them.

These references do not represent a single scientific position. Their methodologies and degrees of scientific validation vary considerably, and NOVAWATER* preserves these distinctions as part of its research practice.

The NOVAWATER* research begins before the contemporary discussion of water memory.
Leonardo da Vinci provides an early methodological reference through his direct observation of rivers, currents, turbulence, vortices and the changing forms of water.
This observational approach connects with systems thinking, which understands natural phenomena through relationships, processes and interactions rather than as isolated components.
The work of Fritjof Capra, particularly The Tao of Physics and The Systems View of Life, provides an important conceptual bridge toward this systemic understanding.
From this perspective, water can be investigated not simply as a chemical substance, but as part of dynamic relationships between minerals, organisms, environments, surfaces and surrounding conditions.

During the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, researchers approached water through increasingly specific experimental and observational questions concerning biological activity, information, electromagnetic phenomena, pattern formation, perception and natural dynamics.
