SUPER*NOVA_Light+Water=Colors

SUPER*NOVA_Water+Light=Colors is a sculptural drinking water fountain developed through an experiment with light in movement.

The work brings water, minerals, glass and light together within a transparent vertical structure. Its composition of water, gold and raw diamond becomes a field through which light is projected and transformed.

The experiment introduces movement into the light. As light travels through the water and glass, reflections, refractions and shifting colour phenomena appear and disappear within the structure. The changing image depends on the movement of light, the material conditions of the fountain and the position of the observer.

This experiment became the starting point for LIGHT + WATER = COLORS, a participatory workshop investigating how colour is perceived individually. Drawing on Goethe’s theory of color, the workshop explores color as a phenomenon arising through the encounter between light, matter and the perceiving body.

SUPER*NOVA_StudioVonTrevellinSP marks a transition in the research from the fountain as a drinking-water sculpture towards an optical instrument: a structure through which water and light make perception visible.
