NOVA*Jungbrunnen is a site-specific drinking water fountain conceived as a point of gathering and spatial activation, designed and created by Fernanda Trevellin. 

A 3.5-metre translucent cylindrical structure rises vertically within the Ruinensaal, creating a visible centre around which visitors can gather, pause, drink and observe. Water from the museum passes through a filtration system and a bed of white quartz before reaching the fountain.

First presented during Future Nows 2017, the installation activated the Ruinensaal, an area marked by the former railway infrastructure of Hamburger Bahnhof. The existing tracks became part of the work’s water system, connecting the history of the site with its new function as a place of encounter.

The transparency of the structure makes the movement of water visible. Light passing through the water and glass produces optical phenomena that shift with the viewer’s position and perception.

The experience of drinking from the fountain was activated through performances by Mari Sierra, Danilo Timm and Elana Katz. Visitors were invited to drink the water and tea from 250 handmade clay cups, turning the fountain into a place of encounter, participation and exchange.

NOVA*Jungbrunnen brings together water, mineral, architecture and human participation, using the fountain as both an object and a situation: a place to gather, drink and experience water within space.
