SUPER*NOVA

SN#1FT_FRBER21-F6.jpg

SUPER*NOVA is a limited edition sculptural installation and drinking water fountain, conceived as an evolution of the series NOVA*DrinkingWaterFountain&Crystals. Developed in borosilicate glass, the work is structured as a vertical tower composed of four concentric cylinders, one inside the other, forming a transparent architectural body where water, minerals and light interact.

The internal composition of the fountain is organized in layers. At the base, a fundamental selection of crystals—amethyst, rock crystal and rose quartz—forms the primary mineral structure through which the water circulates. Above this layer, a second chamber contains a customized selection of crystals. The third and fourth layers incorporate raw diamond and gold nuggets, elements that intensify the interaction between water and mineral composition.

Light plays a central role in SUPER*NOVA. As it passes through glass, water and crystals, it reveals the colors of the mineral composition and generates optical phenomena, including the appearance of rainbows. These effects are not fixed: they emerge from the physical interaction between light and matter and remain in continuous transformation.

The work is activated through use. As visitors drink the water, the level of water inside the tower changes. This shift alters the internal geometry of the cylinders and, consequently, the form, position and intensity of the projected rainbow. In this process, action becomes visible: the installation responds directly to the presence and gestures of its audience. The act of drinking modifies the work, and this modification makes perceptible the idea that perception itself participates in shaping space and reality.

SUPER*NOVA was most recently presented at the Neue Nationalgalerie as part of the Future Nows Festival 2025, where it attracted a wide and diverse audience. Visitors of different backgrounds and ages engaged with the installation over extended periods, observing how light, water and color continuously shifted in response to collective interaction.

Rather than presenting a static object, SUPER*NOVA functions as a dynamic system. It foregrounds the relationship between material processes and human action, making visible how small gestures can transform a structure, an image and the surrounding environment. The installation proposes an experience in which perception is not passive, but active—an ongoing negotiation between body, matter and light.

SUPER*NOVA is a limited Edition of 7 (+3AP), engraved with a specific code, registered and certified with NFT.

The code is unique, composed by number, initials of Fernanda Trevellin and art piece collector, place and year.
